The Mahanna family called us after their A/C quit and kept tripping the breaker. After running diagnostics, we found the compressor had completely burned out - electrical connectors and all. At that point, we had a real conversation with the homeowners about what made sense. Throwing money at a failing compressor on an aging system isn't always the right move.

We laid out a few options, and they decided to go all-in on a Daikin FIT heat pump paired with a 98% efficient modulating furnace. It's a combination that gives them both heating and cooling handled by one cohesive, high-efficiency system. The Daikin FIT is a variable-capacity unit, which means it doesn't just blast on at full power and shut off - it ramps up and down based on what the home actually needs. That translates to more consistent temperatures, quieter operation, and lower energy bills.

What really made this a no-brainer for the Mahannas was the incentive stack. They walked away with $3,100 in local utility rebates, a $750 instant rebate from Daikin, a free Daikin One Touch thermostat, and enrollment in the Connexus Space Heating Program for additional savings when running the heat pump in heating mode. That's a significant offset on a system upgrade that was already going to pay for itself over time.

Our guys Derek and Zen handled the full furnace installation and heat pump installation start to finish. The new Daikin modulating furnace is tucked cleanly into the mechanical room, properly piped and vented, with the outdoor FIT unit mounted on a solid pad outside the home. Every connection is neat and accounted for - refrigerant lines, electrical, condensate - the kind of work that holds up for years.

When a compressor burns out, it's easy to just swap it and move on. But sometimes the smarter call is stepping back and asking what the home actually needs long-term. That's what we did here, and the Mahanna family ended up with a heating and cooling system that's genuinely better than what they had before - not just a band-aid fix.
