A frozen coil or water pooling on the floor are easy things to brush off at first. Maybe it just needs a top-off, right? Not always. When a system is low on refrigerant and running on R-22 - a refrigerant that's no longer being manufactured - those symptoms are usually telling you something bigger is going on.

That's exactly what this family in Elk River was dealing with. Their older system was struggling to keep up, losing refrigerant, and honestly just running out of runway. At that point, topping it off is a temporary fix at best. We sat down with them, walked through their options honestly, and helped them figure out what made the most sense for their home and their budget.

They went with a Daikin condenser - a solid, reliable unit that fits the space cleanly and is built to handle Minnesota summers without breaking a sweat. The new system runs on modern refrigerant, which means no more worrying about sourcing an increasingly scarce and expensive product just to keep things limping along.

This is a situation we run into more than you'd think. Older R-22 systems are still out there in a lot of homes across the area, and the math on repairing them just doesn't work in the homeowner's favor anymore. We're not here to push anyone toward a replacement they don't need - but when the numbers are what they are, we're going to be straight with you about it. That's the only way we know how to work.
